Why vote “No” on Prop A?
Most of the groups involved in this campaign have fought for years, even decades, for an open and citizen-influenced police department. And yes, we’re the ones who started this push for local control of the St. Louis Police Department. We’ve done all this because we need a police department that’s open and responsive, and fair, to its citizens.

But every time we get close to our goal, city officials and the money behind them try to take the people’s power away. That’s just what happened this year with local control.

Rex Sinquefield, Mayor Slay, and the St. Louis Police Officers Association sat down in a closed room. They said they were going to put forward a ballot initiative that mirrored the legislation we all agreed on. But what they did was slip in specific language that killed the possibility of effective Civilian Review. They also shut down the public’s access to important police records--records that would make known the investigations into police who are accused of crimes.

We must not give up the rights of the people in order to get local control. The plan hatched by Sinquefield, Slay and the police association will build a roadblock that will keep us from empowering citizens for years to come.

THEY KEEP TRYING TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY TO THE PEOPLE.
WE WANT DEMOCRATIC LOCAL CONTROL, NOT LOCAL REPRESSION.
VOTE NO ON THE PHONY “LOCAL CONTROL” BALLOT INITIATIVE!
Come to our Rally at City Hall (12th and Market) on October 29 at 4:00 PM.
